A Special Celebration

I’ve been going to the Denver Zoo since I was a child. When I was 28 weeks pregnant, I got very sick. I was being flown to Presbyterian St. Luke’s hospital in Denver to try and save my life and my unborn baby girl.

The pilot knew I was very nervous and upset, so he flew by Zoo Lights and told us to look out the window. He flew over the lights a couple of times while we were waiting to have clearance to land. At that moment, I made a promise that if my child and I survived this traumatic birth experience, we would go see Zoo Lights every year to celebrate.

It was a rough couple of months because my daughter was born 10 weeks early. But she is now a happy and healthy 7-year-old—it’s now our favorite holiday tradition to go to Zoo Lights every year.
